المر تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَالَّذِي أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ الْحَقُّ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ 1

¡ Alif. Lām. Mīm. Rā. These are the signs of the Book; and that which has been sent down unto thee from thy Lord is the truth, but most of mankind believe not. 1 For the detached letters, see 2:1c. Whereas the Book here is understood by some to refer to this specific sūrah (Bḍ, Kl, Z; cf. 10:1c) and the signs to its verses (Bḍ, Kl, R), that which has been sent down refers to the entire Quran (Q, Ṭ, Z). Despite the fact that the Quran is the truth, the majority of people do not accept it as true, which is why they believe not (Āl, Ṭs; see also 11:17; 40:59).
