الم﴿1﴾
Alif, Lam, Meem (English: Saheeh International)
Alif. Lam. Mim. (English: Sarwar)
أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ﴿2﴾
Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried? (English: Saheeh International)
Do people think they will not be tested because they say, "We have faith?" (English: Sarwar)
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللهُ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكَاذِبِينَ﴿3﴾
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars. (English: Saheeh International)
We had certainly tried those who lived before them to make sure who were truthful in their faith and who were liars. (English: Sarwar)
أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ﴿4﴾
Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun Us? Evil is what they judge. (English: Saheeh International)
Do the evil-doers think they can escape Us? How terrible is their judgment? (English: Sarwar)
مَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ اللهِ فَإِنَّ أَجَلَ اللهِ لَآتٍ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ﴿5﴾
Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allah - indeed, the term decreed by Allah is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing. (English: Saheeh International)
Let those who have the desire to be in the presence of God on the Day of Judgment know that their day will certainly be coming. God is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. (English: Sarwar)
وَمَنْ جَاهَدَ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَاهِدُ لِنَفْسِهِ إِنَّ اللهَ لَغَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ﴿6﴾
And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds. (English: Saheeh International)
Whoever strives hard should know that it is for his own good. God is independent of the whole world. (English: Sarwar)
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَحْسَنَ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ﴿7﴾
And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do. (English: Saheeh International)
We shall expiate the sins of the righteously striving believers and shall reward them better than their deeds. (English: Sarwar)
وَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ حُسْنًا وَإِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ لِتُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿8﴾
And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do. (English: Saheeh International)
We have advised the human being, "Be kind to your parents. Do not obey them if they force you to consider equal to Me things which you do not know are such." You will all return (to Me) and I shall show all that you have done. (English: Sarwar)
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ فِي الصَّالِحِينَ﴿9﴾
And those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will surely admit them among the righteous [into Paradise]. (English: Saheeh International)
We shall admit the righteously striving believers into the company of the pious ones. (English: Sarwar)
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللهِ فَإِذَا أُوذِيَ فِي اللهِ جَعَلَ فِتْنَةَ النَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ اللهِ وَلَئِنْ جَاءَ نَصْرٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمْ أَوَلَيْسَ اللهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِمَا فِي صُدُورِ الْعَالَمِينَ﴿10﴾
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah," but when one [of them] is harmed for [the cause of] Allah, they consider the trial of the people as [if it were] the punishment of Allah. But if victory comes from your Lord, they say, "Indeed, We were with you." Is not Allah most knowing of what is within the breasts of all creatures? (English: Saheeh International)
Some people say, "We have faith in God." But when they face some hardship for His cause, they begin to consider the persecution that they have experienced from people as a torment from God. When your Lord grants you a victory, they say, "We were with you." Does God not know best what is in the hearts of every creature? (English: Sarwar)
